Bring new light into your rooms
A mosaic can also be created in other forms. Without a concrete support element on which the mosaic is attached.

This technique has been known for centuries in the form of stained glass on churches or other buildings of central importance. It makes it possible to immerse entire rooms in a new light and thus create a completely different atmosphere.
​
This experience can now also find its way into your home in the form of the Tiffany technique (or copper foil technique).

In this case, the Tiffany glazing in the frame of the thermal glass was firmly glued with a special glue. In contrast to silicone, this adhesive has very high adhesion and strength, is easier to work with and still has a certain flexibility. It is odorless, does not emit any harmful substances and does not attack the adjacent materials such as the plastic frame.

But there are also ways to hang the Tiffany glazing freely in front of the window.
This increases flexibility in the event of a move, for example. However, this type of installation is only advisable for windows that are not opened frequently. Furthermore, they require additional stabilizing measures within the Tiffany glazing, which can have a negative visual impact.

But back to our actual project...
As always, it starts with the design.
A glass selection is then made and a stabilizing frame is built.
Then you can start cutting the glass.
The next step is to foil the individual pieces of glass.
Each piece of glass is framed with a copper foil, which serves as a base for the later solder. A step that requires great care and is therefore time-consuming.
If necessary, this can be reworked with a scalpel.
Any inaccuracy here can later have optical but also structural consequences.

After soldering, the entire object is freed from the binder and then given a black patina. Again it has to be cleaned extensively.
Once installed, Tiffany glazing unfolds its full power in full sunlight. But even on a dull, rainy day, the little light is enough to lift your spirits and put your room in a whole new light!
